Course Description: (16 Hours)

This course will help give guidelines for selecting the most appropriate inspection method for a part feature. Participants will gain an understanding of design principles to produce low cost, functional gages. They will also be taught a method of practical datum selection as well as guidelines for using modifiers. Criteria for selecting company/division gaging policies and an overview of gaging equipment capabilities will also be covered.

  • Based on ASME Y14.43 Dimensioning and Tolerancing Principles for Gages and Fixtures.
  • Discussion of the fourteen geometic symbols and their respective tolerance zones by physically inspecting part features.
  • Parts will be inspected using functional gaging methods and flexible inspection methods.
  • Understand that inspection is not perfect and the risk factors.
