Tec-Ease was never founded simply to teach Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T). From the very beginning, it was built on a simple but powerful belief: Understanding changes everything. When people truly understand — not just memorize — they become more confident, ask better questions, communicate more effectively and solve problems more creatively.
That belief began in 1997 when Donald Day and Wendy Day Patterson founded Tec-Ease with a clear mission: to provide educationally sound GD&T training that is in accordance with the ASME Y14.5 Standard. More than twenty-five years later, that mission continues to guide everything we do.
More Than Symbols on a Drawing
Don understood that GD&T was never just about symbols, feature control frames, or rules printed on a drawing. It is a language.
A language that allows engineering, manufacturing, quality, and inspection teams to communicate design intent clearly so products can be manufactured, inspected, assembled, and function as intended. But like any language, simply memorizing the rules isn't enough. Real understanding comes from knowing why the rules exist, how they work together, and when to apply them. That's the difference between learning GD&T and truly understanding it.
At Tec-Ease, we believe learning should be clear, engaging, and practical.
Unlike training programs that rely on lengthy lectures or personal interpretations of the standard, our courses are built using proven educational methods that keep students engaged, curious, and confident throughout the learning process. Through videos, animations, interactive discussions, real-world examples, and even a touch of humor, we make complex GD&T concepts easier to understand—and easier to apply back on the job. Because our goal isn't simply for students to complete a class. It's for them to leave with confidence.
Teaching the Standard—Not Our Interpretation
Every Tec-Ease course, reference guide, video, and learning resource is developed in accordance with the ASME Y14.5 Standard (1994, 2009 and 2018). We don't teach our interpretation of the standard. We teach the standard itself. That commitment gives organizations confidence that every engineer, designer, machinist, inspector, and quality professional receives consistent, accurate, and industry-recognized instruction that can be applied across departments, suppliers, and customers.
Learn From the People Who Help Shape the Industry
The quality of a training program depends on the people who teach it. Tec-Ease instructors are among the most respected GD&T professionals in the industry. Our trainers serve—or have served—on the ASME committees responsible for developing the standards used throughout manufacturing. Every Tec-Ease instructor is also a Senior Level GD&T Professional (GDTP) certified by ASME, bringing decades of practical manufacturing, engineering, inspection, and teaching experience into every class. When you learn from Tec-Ease, you're learning from professionals who understand not only what the standard says, but how it is successfully applied in the real world.
Our Promise
Whether you're just beginning your GD&T journey or developing advanced expertise across your organization, Tec-Ease is committed to helping your team build confidence, improve communication, and apply GD&T correctly in real-world situations.
Because when people truly understand, they don't just become better at GD&T, they become better at what they do.
