Dave originally completed an engineering student apprenticeship with the Dowty Group, being involved in the manufacture of fuel systems, landing gear, propellers, ram air turbines and mining equipment whilst working in CNC and conventional machining, flexible manufacturing systems, jig and tool design, and project leadership.

After apprenticeship he took a position as a tooling engineer. He then worked as a product engineer on NPI at Rank Xerox setting up production lines for medium volume photocopiers, piloting illustrated assembly processes, training and FMEA.Following a one year post graduate certificate of education he went on to teach mathematics, sciences and technology to high school students and adults.Returning to a technical career with the automotive Delphi Corporation he specialised in micron and sub-micron valve grinding, automated assembly and high pressure valve testing processes in the TS16949 environment.

He undertook a number of engineering projects including the implementation of sub-micron gauging, Taguchi type investigation and analysis developing KPFs for product performance and manufacture, solving dimensional and tolerance related problems, designing and implementing SPC systems, and making machine process capability and process control improvements. His QOS design was adopted as a template for the Delphi Corporation worldwide. Whilst working at Delphi Dave took formal GD&T training eventually becoming Delphi Diesel Systems GD&T SME and instructor for over 120 engineers in design, development, manufacturing, quality and metrology; and delivering six four day courses.

As the project engineering lead for upgrading an automated diesel injector assembly line for Volvo product, he specified and purchased special machinery and equipment, carried out detail machine, gauge and poka-yoke design, gauge R and R, FMEA, safety improvement modifications, statistical tolerancing applications and machine qualification trials. Following this work Dave received chartered engineer status with the IMechE.

Dave then took his process improvement skills to Moog Aircraft Group to improve the quality and delivery performance in the Airbus and Boeing supply chains, working with machining, moulding, casting, transducer and special process suppliers on risk assessments, continuous improvements and special problems within AS9100 environment.

Dave now works as a manufacturing, quality and supply chain consultant, and GD&T instructor. He is currently contracted at Pall Filtration Life Sciences setting up performance metrics, raising OEE, improving plastics welding processes and implementing NWA SPC in the GMP environment.

Outside of work Dave served fifteen years in the Territorial Army as a physical training instructor and weapons instructor. He is a certified mountain leader and has a 17 year old daughter. He lives in Gloucester, UK.
